素材用得恰當，往往會帶來畫龍點睛的效果。說起金漆，會令我想起新年那些廉價揮春會把金粉沾得滿手都是，誰會想到新年寫大字的那種金漆會和高貴扯上關係。畫家 Brad Kunkle 卻看中了金光閃閃的金屬顏料，金色與銀色在不同光線及角度有不同的折射，以這種元素結合了光與葉片創作出一件又一件帶有神秘復古色彩的藝術作品。而這種的結合，成功令作品帶來動感，亦制做了空間和距離。

"I use genuine gold and silver leaf in the oil paintings. The surreal nature of the leaf was a missing element in my work that I had been waiting to discover and that happened in 2007, at a time when I was getting by doing decorative and house painting. I was working on a project with a client that wanted his office walls gilded in copper, so I leafed all of the walls in copper. As I stood in front of them, it just hit me. This was the missing element in my work. The way light reacted and the way my movements interacted with the leaf was completely beguiling, and I wanted to create paintings that allowed people to feel this same surreal sense of space and time. It was difficult to find someone using gold leaf in paintings, so I just started reading and experimenting to develop my own techniques. I'm very confident with my process, but there's still a lot to learn, which is very exciting to me."
