YY9 Gallery is pleased to present “Rainbow of the Moon” – a solo exhibition of Eunice Wai-Man Cheung.    This exhibition features the latest series of paintings by the artist, in which Cheung depicts the natural beauty of animals with the traditional Chinese gongbi techniques.    In addition to the delicate and refined brushworks of the gongbi technique that Cheng frequently employs in her paintings, this time, Cheng also experiments with the ink-dying technique to create a misty, colorful and illusory imagery.
Animals in this exhibition discover their individual “rainbow”. They feel delighted, then infatuated, and eventually they cannot let go of this uncontrollable desire for this beautiful but illusory “rainbow”.    At the end what have remained are just confusion and lament.
Moon and rainbow appear in the same misty night, dreamy and delusive. These are stories about crushing, obsession, irrationality and lost.
About the artist:
Eunice Wai-Man Cheung was born in 1986 and is now studying the Master of Fine Art program in The Chinese University of Hong Kong. As Cheung loves the nature, the beauty of nature and the loveliness of animals have always been the theme of her work.

Feeling that environmental protection is becoming more important, Cheung would like to share her idea of protecting animals and environment through Chinese gongbi (fine-brush) Painting. Her first solo exhibition is “Man in Beijing”. Her work is selected in the exhibition of the “Hong Kong Contemporary Art Biennial Awards 2009” and some became private collections.

Opening reception with the artist on 20 January 2011, Thursday 7-9pm
